After the Trump administration indicted and captured Venezuelan leader Nicolas Maduro on Friday, former White House official and DOGE advisor and spokesperson Katie Miller, wife of Stephen Miller, posted a map of Greenland covered in an American flag and wrote: “SOON.”
As seen below on CNN, Jake Tapper asked U.S. Homeland Security Advisor Stephen Miller, “Can you rule out that the U.S. is ever to going to take Greenland by force?”, Miller replied “Greenland should be a part of the United States,” and “Nobody’s going to fight the United States militarily over the future of Greenland.”

STEPHEN MILLER: Greenland should be part of the US. By what right does Denmark assert control over Greenland? The US is the power of NATO.
TAPPER: So you can't take military force off the table?

U.S. Senator Lisa Murkowski (R-AK) responded on social media by writing: “I continue to hope the administration’s rhetoric on Greenland is nothing more than posturing for a new era of cooperation, because any effort to claim or take the territory by force would degrade both our national security and our international relationships.”
She added: “We have a long history of close cooperation with Greenland, dating back to World War II and continuing today with the Pituffik Space Base, and have always been able to achieve our mutual goals through strong diplomacy with its people. As Greenland charts its future, we must see it as an ally, not an asset, and focus on continued partnership rather than possession.”

Murkowski’s reply of “hope” is being criticized by influencers including Adam Cochran who wrote: “What the hell is this hedged statement. Try growing a spine for once Lisa. This administration has shown they repeatedly do not engage in rhetorical posturing. Just flagrant disdain for our constitution. Do your damn job.”
Ani Wandaryan replied to Murkowski: “‘Continuing to hope’ is how you in Congress have ceded your power to the executive branch. You know better than that. It’s time to fund some bravery and background before this is no longer a democracy. As Ben Franklin stated, it’s only a republic if you can keep it.”
Asked about Trump’s Greenland plans, White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt allowed for a military option in her reply, saying: “The president and his team are discussing a range of options to pursue this important foreign policy goal, and of course, utilizing the U.S. military is always an option at the commander in chief’s disposal.”
After a closed-door meeting between Secretary of State Marco Rubio and members of Congress, the Washington Post reported a source as saying Rubio informed lawmakers “that the escalation in public rhetoric was part of a broader strategy to pressure Denmark into selling Greenland to the United States rather than capture it by military force.”
