U.S. Representative Byron Donalds (R-FL), who received the endorsement of President Donald Trump when he launched his 2026 Florida gubernatorial campaign to replace term-limited Governor Ron DeSantis, has been facing criticism from fellow Republicans including Florida Lt. Gov. Jay Collins, who reportedly is also considering running for Governor.
This week in Washington, Donalds reiterated his positions on immigration — which align with those of President Trump’s. With the video below, he wrote: “I support the mass deportation of illegals. I support ending H-1B & a visa overhaul. I oppose pathways to citizenship & birthright citizenship. We must end chain migration & go back to a system that prioritizes assimilation, the national interest, & protects American heritage.” (Collins asserts that Donalds’ voting record says otherwise.)

Former professional kickboxer and controversial social media influencer Andrew Tate — the subject of a recent New York Times probe who is facing six legal investigations in Romania, the United Kingdom, and the United States — replied to Donalds and wrote: “When I landed in Florida you sold me out and said I was a bad person after begging me previously to advertise your campaign. You’re a sell out who does anything the media asks.”

You’re a sell out who does anything the media asks.
In February, after the Trump administration reportedly influenced Romanian authorities to lift his and his brother Tristan Tate’s travel restrictions, the Tates left Romania and arrived in Fort Lauderdale by private plane. After Governor DeSantis said the Tates were “not welcome” in the Sunshine State, Florida Attorney General James Uthmeier opened a criminal investigation into the Tates.
At that time, Donalds backed Uthmeier’s probe into the Tates and said, “I think those allegations have to be fully investigated.”
The Congressman added, “The key thing is, we don’t tolerate the trafficking of women or, frankly, the abuse of women. We do not tolerate that. So if the Attorney General finds cause under Florida law to investigate that, then I wish him the best, and I support whatever he’s going to do on that matter.”
