Like Sen. Ted Cruz and his fellow MAGA adherents, self-described rabble rouser Meghan McCain — no fan of Donald Trump — is slamming the investigation into Russian collusion with Trump’s 2016 campaign as a “hoax.”
But unlike with Cruz and others, McCain’s “collusion hoax” slam isn’t triggered by the Durham Report — or that’s not her focus.
Instead the slam is an aside in a more current story she’s telling: McCain is tearing into what she alleges is a Democratic plot to use the 89-year-old Dianne Feinstein, the diminished but legendary glass-ceiling breaking Senator from California, as a tool to place Rep. Adam Schiff in her seat when she — reluctantly, finally — retires.
Using MAGA characterizations throughout, McCain outlines the alleged plot in her Daily Mail column, which starts with sympathy and “heart-break” for the wounded Feinstein and ends with vitriol for Democrats she accuses of playing musical chairs politics.
[Note: For Dems who watched Merrick Garland denied and then three SCOTUS Justices confirmed with alacrity in the next four years, the accusation that a party is playing politics may sound rich. For disappointed citizens of both parties watching the rampant redistricting and gerrymandering all over the country, the accusation may just sound frustratingly normal.]
Below is how McCain spells out her alleged plot — with its unmistakable “Deep State” narrative. It involves California power players Schiff, Gov. Gavin Newsom, and the ubiquitous Nancy Pelosi. “Allow me to explain,” she writes, in introducing the tale.
Nancy Pelosi has endorsed sleazy Rep. Adam Schiff, who possibly did more than any other member of Congress to spread the Russian collusion hoax, to run for Feinstein’s congressional seat when her term expires in 2024.
However, if Feinstein were to resign, California Governor Gavin Newsom would be required to appoint a replacement, and he has vowed to put a black woman in that position.
‘If [Dianne Feinstein] resigns right now, there is an enormous probability that [California Congresswoman] Barbara Lee gets appointed — thus, it makes it harder for Schiff,’ the Pelosi family confidant admitted.
