Kodiak Cakes launched as a line of all-natural, whole grain pancake, flapjack and waffle mixes. The high-protein mixes come in a variety of flavors including buttermilk, dark chocolate, and crunchy peanut butter. The founder of Kodiak Cakes, Joel Clark and COO Cameron Smith of Park City, Utah pitched the breakfast food business on Shark Tank in April 2014. They went into the Tank seeking an investment of $500,000 in exchange for 10 percent equity but, alas, they did not walk away with a deal.
After Shark Tank, Kodiak Cakes launched a new product, Power Cakes (packed with protein powder), which helped turn the company around and boost sales. According to Inc., Kodiak Cakes is now the fourth-largest pancake mix brand and the largest whole grain pancake mix company in the U.S. In 2017, they reported $54 million in sales.
Kodiak Cakes has also expanded the product line to include protein-packed Muffin Mix, which is available in double dark chocolate and coconut dark chocolate; Minute Muffin Cups (SEE LINK ABOVE) which need just a ¼ cup of water and 60 seconds in the microwave before eating; Flapjacks on the Go (just add ¼ cup water or milk); and Oatmeal Unleashed (crunch oatmeal ready in 30 seconds). New episodes of Shark Tank air Sunday nights on ABC. [Related: 27 Favorite ‘Shark Tank’ Products at Amazon — New List]
