Acton makes Rocket Skates. That’s right, rockets that you can wear on your feet. Each pair is powered by two brushless DC motors that go up to 12 mph. You lean on your toes to move forward — and brake by clicking your heels. After 8 miles, they need to be charged, which takes about 90 minutes.
Acton’s RocketSkates R8 model (described above: 12 mph, 8 mile range, $599) is sold out except at Amazon. But there are pairs of the ACTON R10 RocketSkates model available for $699. They cost more because you get a range of 10 miles. Or, you can pre-order the RocketSkates R5 for $399 at ACTON’s site. These are cheaper because you get a range of 5 miles. Acton expects shipping of the R5s to be ready in November 2015. P.S. Acton also makes scooters and backpacks.
