60-30-10 Rule

There are many rules of color that you need to know if you want a welcoming and well balanced home. If you are having trouble figuring out what you want, then you might want to pick a theme. Picking your favorite time period, a favorite TV show, or movie can help you to find the color scheme and Feng Shui that you need to create your vision. One thing to consider is the 60-30-10 rule. This rule is really very simple. You will want to pick three colors that coordinate together. You want the primary color to be present in 60% of the room. The secondary color should be present in 30% of the room. You can then finish off the room with 10% of an accent color of your choice. The trick to finding the right colors is to allow you to get creative with the accent color and choose something that contrasts the other two colors. This is done while sticking to a more neutral color for the primary and something that coordinates well for the secondary.

Pick a Color Scheme and Stick to It

Another thing that can be really helpful is to make sure that you pick your color scheme before doing any shopping. Look for the biggest items in the room in the primary color and then choose a few medium sized items or one big item in the secondary color. Next pick out smaller items and décor that match the accent color that you chose. To make the most of a room, look for unique items that are new in your favorite accent color. Do not be afraid to go eclectic and mix designs and mediums as long as you stick to one color.  Going in this order when you are picking out things is going to make it very simple to have a well-planned out room that fits the original concept that you had in mind.
