The story behind Sun Staches is a goofy one. Three young men — David Levich, Eric Liberman and Dan Gershon from Chatsworth, California — had a friend in college who couldn’t grow a mustache. One day, while playing video games, the friend (Jordan) held up the controller under his nose and eureka the idea of creating sunglasses with funny moustaches was born. The three entrepreneurs pitched Sun-Staches on Shark Tank in 2014 and made a deal with Daymond John ($300,000 for 20% equity).
Yes, Sun Staches are novelty items. But don’t dismiss their cultural influence. When Justin Bieber and Selena Gomez made a home video of them lip syncing to Carly Rae Jespen’s hit “Call Me Baby”, they wore a couple of pairs of Sun Staches. The video was watched more than 70 million times. Today there are more than mustached designs to choose from. Sun Staches exploded with a line of Superheros following a sweet deal with Marvel, creator of Superman, Batman, Spider Man, Wonder Woman, and Teenage Mutal Ninja Turtles.
