Kohl’s Black Friday 2014 Ad got a lot of attention this year. The 68-page ad featured “some of the finest deals you’ll find anywhere this holiday season,” according to BlackFriday.com, a virtual popup site whose significance soars just before Thanksgiving. The site revealed “more than 500 doorbusters like 50% off all toys.” The Kohl’s ad featured some items, like bedding and cookware at 75% off regular prices.
It worked. The New York Times reports that in early results Kohl’s was one of the retailers able to keep up with Walmart’s monster effort to subsume Black Friday as a sort of Walton sub-brand. Walmart had already discounted 20,000 items by the first weekend in November, leaving little to chance. Kohl’s customer loyalty and rewards program is among the best in all retail.
