Lincoln got a lot of attention for its quirky, moody Matthew McConaughey ads. Now it seems they also sold a lot of cars because of them. Sales of the Lincoln MKC rose to 2,197 cars in October from 1,763 in September. It’s hard to tell if it’s McConaughey that’s responsible or the fact that you simply can’t avoid the ads, especially if you’re watching sports on TV. The media buy was obviously massive, so you’d expect a rise.
Next, McConaughey blasts off for outer space in what will be–no offense to Lincoln–a far more sophisticated ride. (He stars in Christopher Nolan’s Interstellar.) The fact that the Oscar-winning actor’s choice of vehicle is either a Lincoln MKC or a spaceship should help the brand even more. The McConaughey sponsorship deal may just help Lincoln blast off.
