Big vans are in. Mercedes has its Freightliner Sprint. There’s the Ram ProMaster, and now, the Ford Transit. The Transit (replacing Ford’s old-school E-Series of vans) can seat eight passengers, and offers a five-cylinder diesel, a 3.7-liter V-6 or a 3.5-liter EcoBoost V-6. The EcoBoost is a smart alternative to all those big SUVs and minivans you see hogging the road and leaving large carbon footprints.
Ezra Dyer of Yahoo! Autos put the Ford Transit to the test at Costco. He stacked $215 worth of Charmin into the Transit and “easily had room for a couple more pallets. And that was still behind the third row of seats, which are removable. As is the second row.” The Ford Transit might not be the prettiest thing on the block (have you ever seen a pretty van?) but it is a bargain at $35,000. And while it has the room of a truck, the Transit doesn’t drive like one. It’s a van.
