Because Costco employees won’t be at work. It’s a busy holiday season and Costco thinks it’s important to give them the time.
“Our employees work especially hard during the holiday season and we simply believe that they deserve the opportunity to spend Thanksgiving with their families,” a Costco spokesman told Think Progress. Macy’s and other big stores have taken to opening in the early evening on Thanksgiving Day, beginning the madness that is the American holiday shopping season before shoppers and workers have even had a chance to digest. Costco is expected to report strong holiday earnings despite giving its employees a break. Nordstrom will also remain closed on Thanksgiving.
