October 5 marks the first big new product line-up from GoPro since the category-killing camera maker went public in June. It’s going to be hard for the new cameras to outdo GoPro’s stock price, which is so sky high it’s rumored only a GoPro camera can capture photos of it. (GoPro stock is near $87 on the announcement of the new line. For its IPO, GoPro priced shares at $24.) But GoPro is at least sticking with a name that matches its stock performance: the new product line will add to the GoPro’s Hero brand, featuring The GoPro Hero, the Hero4 Silver and the Hero4 Black.
The GoPro Hero is just $130. It’s meant to be a gateway camera for adventurers who can document their intrepid travels and stunts without breaking the bank. But once you get good at scaling Half Dome, say, you’ll want to upgrade–all the way up to the $500 Hero4 Black with serious processing speeds. You don’t want to miss anything. Strap one on, as they say.
