Despite the lack of evidence to support wheat- or gluten-elimination diets for weight loss or health reasons (not associated with a clinical disorder or disease), Americans are plowing wheat from their diets. (28 percent of Americans claim to be cutting back on wheat.) So what are people eating? When Today’s Dietitian magazine surveyed more than 500 Registered Dietitians (there are 70,000 of them in the US), 37 percent of them report that coconut oil is all the rage.
A whopping 75 percent of dietitians turn to the USDA’s MyPlate food guidance system to help people eat right. Coconut oil has not been added to the “commonly eaten oils” list, yet.
