On Season 2 of American Idol, judges Katy Perry, Lionel Richie and Luke Bryan will meet Ryan Hammond. The young man from Modesto, California comes from a musical family and grew up singing in church. When not studying to become a nurse and working at a senior living facility in Pacifica, Hammond is making music. In 2018, he release his debut Christian/Gospel EP Tragedy to Triumph. See link below.
On social media, Hammond has shared his 10-year challenge (see before and after photos below) to lose weight. Two years ago he had gastric bypass surgery. He writes about the experience: “Almost lost my life, but began a journey to rediscover who I was without a desperate addiction to food.” He lost a total of 170 lbs and “put back 14 lbs. of muscle!” American Idol airs Sundays and Mondays at 8 pm on ABC.

The photo on the left was two years ago, the month I had finally gotten my approval to receive the gastric bypass surgery. A few month later I went through the hardest process of my life. Almost lost my life, but began a journey to rediscover who I was without a desperate addiction to food. I learned to eat out of need, not want. I learned that life doesn’t revolve around food. And I learned to stop letting it control me. I stopped with unmaintainable dieting and began making steps slowly toward lifestyle changes. I learned how to cook properly and how to still have my favorite things by tweaking them a bit. I learned the importance of exercise! Of building strength. Of making daily goals. Of challenging yourself to go harder every day. I learned that when you mess up and break your routine, all you have to do is pick up where you left off. I lost a total of 170lbs and have put back on 14lbs of muscle! My journey isn’t for everyone. I needed the surgery to help me with my portion control. And I needed my trainers @trainerhollyrenee @madisynn_danielle @trisha_fit_ @davidj1987 to push me. Now I love the challenge! I love meal prepping! I love getting creative in the kitchen! I recently started cooking dairy-free and gluten-free, it’s hard to find things, but I get super excited when I do! Whether you are thinner or thicker, health is important. Start your journey!
