In the Season 5 premiere of Return to Amish, while Mary must decide if she will rejoin the Amish church, Jeremiah and Carmela partner with Amish Ada to sell Amish donuts at a fair across the country. Ada insists that Jeremiah hire Amish people to help so he finds three young people who are willing to work in the English world. Lowell, a Mennonite from Bedford, Pennsylvania, is one of them. As the young African-American man points out, he didn’t choose to become a Mennonite. He was adopted into the community at a very early age.
While Lowell’s excited to find out more about where he’s from, and discover who he really is, Lowell also realizes he’s giving up a lot. Lowell says in the Mennonite community “I’m known as a Ladies’ Man because I can pretty much get whatever girl I want.” On the show, he points to a spot — an animal pen in a barn –where he “lost his virginity for the first time.”
He’s currently in serious relationship with Lisa who’s Amish. Amish and Mennonites aren’t supposed to date but Lisa has been holding out thinking Lowell will someday become Amish so they can marry. Return to Amish airs Sundays at 10 pm on TLC.
