The new sitcom The Kids Are Alright is set in the early 1970s, in a working-class neighborhood outside of Los Angeles. The premiere episode watches the Irish-Catholic Cleary family react when the prodigal eldest son, Lawrence, comes home from the seminary and announces that he’s dropping out. His parents, Mike and Peggy, are beyond upset but there are plenty of distractions in a house with 8 kids (all boys), 3 bedrooms and one bathroom.
Mike Cleary, who works at big defense contractor Logan Aerospace, is portrayed by Michael Cudlitz. Peggy Cleary is portrayed by actress Mary McCormack. McCormack is known for her roles on House of Lies (Denna Altshuler), In Plain Sight (Mary Shannon), The West Wing (Kate Harper), ER (Debbie), and Murder One (Justine Appleton), among others. The Trinity College graduate is married to Michael Morris, father of her three children, and producer of 25 Words or Less and Brothers & Sisters. The Kids Are All Right airs Tuesdays at 8:30 pm on ABC, right after The Conners.
