In the New Amsterdam episode “Every Last Minute,” Max (Ryan Eggold) helps Bloom (Janet Montgomery) find a solution for a pregnant patient in a tough spot, all the while continuing to avoid the reality of his cancer diagnosis and fighting to keep his job. Max has a terse conversation with Dean Fulton, the man who hired him two months ago. Fulton is mad that Max eliminated the hospital’s biggest revenue maker, the cardiac surgery program, and has hired 50 new attendings, among other things.
Dean Fulton is portrayed by Ron Rifkin. The New York native is known for his roles on Limitless (Dennis Finch), Gotham (Father Creel), Law & Order: SVU (Marvin Exley), Brothers & Sisters (Saul Holden), Alias (Arvin Sloane), ER (Dr. Carl Vucelich), and One Day at a Time (Nick Handris), among many others. Fun fact: Rifkin made his TV debut on a 1966 episode of Gidget with Sally Field — his future Brothers & Sisters co-star! Rifkin is currently in the Hollywood blockbuster A Star Is Born with Bradley Cooper and Lady Gaga. New Amsterdam airs Tuesdays at 10pm on NBC, right after This Is Us.
