In the second episode of the Magnum P.I. reboot, “From the Head Down,” Magnum (Jay Hernandez) helps a struggling fisherman and fellow veteran, Dan Sawyer. Dan’s 300-pound tuna – which is worth $350,000 – has been stolen. Dan needs the money bad. He’s in a deep financial hole. If he doesn’t collect, he’s going to lose his boat. Magnum finds the thief, and in a strange twist of events, the thief needs Magnum’s help too.
Fisherman and veteran Dan Sawyer is portrayed by Carl Weathers. The former NFL football player (Oakland Raiders) is known for his role as Mark Jefferies on Chicago Justice, Chicago P.D., and Chicago Fire, and his roles on In the Heart of the Night (Chief Hampton Forbes), and Street Justice (Adam Beaudreaux), among others. Weathers is also well recognized for his roles as Apollo Creed in the Rocky movies, and as Chubbs in Adam Sandler’s Happy Gilmore and Little Nicky. Magnum P.I. airs Mondays at 9pm on CBS, right after the new sitcom Happy Together and right before Bull.
