In the NCIS: New Orleans episode “Pound of Flesh,” while the team tries to track down a suspect who’s harvesting organs from multiple victims, Agent Dwayne Pride (Scott Bakula) seeks professional help. He’s still struggling with after-effects of his recent brush with death (he was shot in the chest), so he turns to his doctor friend, Commander Calvin Atkins, M.D.
Commander Atkins is portrayed by Geoffrey Owens. He’s best known for his role as Dr. Elvin Tibideaux, Sondra’s husband on The Cosby Show. Since then, he’s appeared on several shows including Divorce with Sarah Jessica Parker (Gerald) and It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia (Fake Tiger Woods and Donovan McNabb imposter), among others. Owens is currently filming the thriller Fatale with Oscar-winner Hilary Swank. Notable fact about Owens: The Yale University graduate is the son of the late former U.S. Congressman Major Owens, who in 1968 was made commissioner of New York City’s Community Development Agency by Mayor John Lindsay. NCIS: New Orleans airs Tuesdays at 10 pm on CBS, right after the new crime drama FBI.
