Sweetbitter is a new TV drama series on Starz that tells the life of 22-year-old Tess. It’s 2006, and she’s just come to New York City. She lands an opportunity to train at the hot restaurant downtown. On the job, she meets eccentric people, does wild things and is occasionally forced to pay for the fun she’s had. (The show is based on the New York Times Bestselling novel by Stephanie Danler.) Tess is portrayed by Ella Purnell. Born and raised in London, England, Purnell is known for her roles in the films Miss Peregrine’s Home for Peculiar Children (Emma), Maleficent (teen Maleficent/Angelina Jolie), Kick-Ass 2 (Dolce), and Never Let Me Go (as young Ruth/Keira Knightley).
Starz is using the LCD Soundsystem song “New York, I Love You But You’re Bringing Me Down” to promote the series. It’s on their Sound of Silver album. LCD Soundsystem is an electronic rock band from Brooklyn, New York. Their most recent album is American Dream. Starz is releasing new episodes of Sweetbitter every Sunday, beginning May 6.
