The new CBS crime drama Instinct is about the relationship between college professor Dr. Dylan Reinhart (Alan Cumming) and NYPD detective Lizzie Needham (Bojana Novakovia). Reinhart is not your ordinary professor. He’s a former CIA operative who writes crime novels. His first novel is now being used as a primer by a serial killer in New York City. Needham asks for his help to deter more murders in the Big Apple. Needham reports to Lt. Jasmine Gooden, who has to report to Mayor Meyers (Sarita Choudhury). Gooden warns Reinhart and Needham that when it comes to dealing with the mayor: “Speak only when spoken to.”
Lt. Jasmine Gooden is portrayed by Sharon Leal. She’s known for her roles on Supergirl (M’gann M’orzz), Grimm (Zuri Ellis), Recovery Road (Charlotte Graham), Suits (Lisa Parker), Hellcats (Vanessa Lodge), Private Practice (Sonya Nichols), Boston Public (Marilyn Sudor), Guiding Light (Dahlia Crede), and Legacy (Marita), among others. Leal is also well recognized for her role as Michelle Morris (the singer who replaces Effie/Jennifer Hudson’s character) in the 2006 film Dreamgirls (see photo below). Instinct airs Sundays at 8pm on CBS, right after 60 Minutes.
