In the Chicago Med episode “On Shaky Ground,” while Drs. Manning (Torrey DeVitto) and Halstead (Nick Gehlfuss) disagree about how to guide a family who’s dealing with a premature baby, Dr. Rhodes (Colin Donnell) agrees to perform a risky surgery on Dr. Ava Bekker’s (Norma Kuhling) mentor, the world-renowned heart surgeon Dr. Marvin Jaffrey. Jaffrey has a tumor on his right lung that needs to be removed. He wants his star pupil (Bekker) to oversee the procedure…and he wants to be awake for the surgery.
Heart surgeon Dr. Jaffrey is portrayed by Malcolm McDowell. The Englishman is known for his roles on Mozart in the Jungle (Thomas), Franklin & Bash (Stanton Infeld), The Mentalist (Bret Stiles), Entourage (Terrance McQuewick), Heroes (Daniel Linderman), and in the TV mini-series War and Peace (Prince Bolkonsky), among others. McDowell is also well recognized for his roles in the films The Artist (The Butler), the Halloween movies (Dr. Samuel Loomis), Star Trek: Generations (Soran), and in Stanley Kubrick’s controversial A Clockwork Orange (Alex DeLarge, see link above). Chicago Med airs Tuesdays at 10pm on NBC.
