In the Season 3 premiere episode of Mr. Robot, before Elliot (Rami Malek) gets woke and realizes that his mission needs help from Angela (Portia Doubleday), Irving makes an appearance. The car salesman from Pelham, New York makes a great first impression when he earns a free milkshake at the BBQ take-out Red Wheelbarrow. When the young woman behind the counter explains he can only redeem it at his next visit, he says very calmly, “When we lose our principles, we invite chaos.”
Irving is portrayed by Bobby Cannavale. He’s known for his roles on Vinyl (Richie), Nurse Jackie (Dr. Mike Cruz), Boardwalk Empire (Gyp Rosetti), Will & Grace (Vince), Third Watch (Roberto), and in the films Ant-Man (Paxton), Danny Collins (Tom), The Station Agent (Joe Oramas) – see link above, and Win Win (Terry), among others. (Cannavale was great in Win Win.) The 2x Emmy Award winner is also known for his roles on Broadway (The Hairy Ape, Glengarry Glen Ross, The Big Knife, Mauritius). Mr. Robot airs Wednesdays at 10pm on USA.
