In the series premiere of Law & Order True Crime: The Menendez Murders, the 1989 murders of Jose and Kitty Menendez in their Beverly Hills mansion is re-lived. Before their sons Lyle and Erik Menendez were convicted in 1996 of first-degree murder, the young men saw a psychiatrist, Dr. Jerome Oziel (played by Josh Charles), who was in a relationship with a woman named Judalon Smyth. After Oziel and Smyth broke up, Smyth became a key witness for the prosecution after she told authorities that she overhead the brothers confess to the killings. She later recanted and said Dr. Oziel brainwashed her.
On the show, Smyth is portrayed by Heather Graham (see photos below). Graham is known for her roles on Angie Tribeca (Diane Duran), Californication (Julia), Scrubs (Dr. Molly Clock), Twin Peaks (Annie Blackburn), and in the films The Hangover (Jade), Austin Powers: The Spy Who Shagged Me (Felicity Shagwell), Boogie Nights (Rollergirl), Drugstore Cowboy (Nadine), and I Love You to Death (Bridget), among others. Law & Order True Crime: The Menendez Murders airs Tuesday, September 26 at 10pm on NBC.
