After the Season 11 premiere episode of The Big Bang Theory, CBS will air the first episode of its spin-off Young Sheldon. Set in East Texas, future physicist Sheldon Cooper (Iain Armitage) is 9 years old and living with his very normal family including his high school football coach father George (Lance Barber) and mother Mary (Zoe Perry). Sheldon also receives support from his Meemaw, his “foul-mouthed, hard-drinking grandmother.” (On The Big Bang Theory, Meemaw was portrayed by June Squibb.)
On Young Sheldon, Meemaw is portrayed by Annie Potts (who’s gone gray for the role, see photo below). She’s known for her roles on The Fosters (Sharon Elkin), Chicago Med (Helen), GCB (Gigi Stopper), Men in Trees (Mary Alice), Joan of Arcadia (Lt. Lucy Preston), and Designing Women (Mary Jo Shively), among others. Potts is also well recognized for her roles in the films Ghostbusters (Janine Melnitz), Pretty in Pink (Iona), Jumpin’ Jack Flash (Liz Carlson), and as the voice of Bo Peep in the Toy Story movies. Young Sheldon airs Mondays at 8:30 PM ON CBS.
