In the series premiere of Boy Band, pop star Rita Ora plays host and welcomes 30 young men who want to be a part of the next big boy band. They will audition in front of Backstreet Boys’ Nick Carter, Spice Girls’ Emma Bunton (Baby Spice), and music producer Timbaland. At the end of the first episode, 18 singers will be selected to advance to the next round where and when they’ll be grouped together. The winner gets a recording contract with Hollywood Records.
During the premiere, the first band Uplift performs the Bruno Mars song “That’s What I Like.” They sing to an adoring pool of women who stand below stage, holding out their hands and singing along. All three Boy Band judges give standing ovations. Carter yells, “That’s what I wanted to hear!” Timbaland chimes in, ‘That’s what I’m talking about!” Rita Ora walks back on stage and says, “How amazing was that.” Boy Band airs Thursdays at 8pm on ABC.
