There are 30 young men (age 14 to 24) competing on the new talent competition TV show, Boy Band. Each boy gets the chance to sing before a panel of three judges: Backstreet Boys’ Nick Carter, Spice Girls’ Emma Bunton (Baby Spice), and music producer Timbaland. After 17-year-old Devin Hayes of Springfield, Illinois performs The Chainsmokers song “Closer”, Emma Bunton asks if he’ll sing the chorus again, while serenading host Rita Ora. (Emma wants to see Devin “connect” more.) Devin couldn’t be happier with the challenge. Carter yells to Devin, “Make her crazy, man!”
While Devin sings the chorus, Rita plays the hard-to-get role. At one moment, Devin mimes that he’s reeling her back to him and does indeed get “closer.” While a blushing Rita fans herself on stage, Carter yells, “I don’t know man, I think you sold me.” Boy Band airs Thursdays at 8pm on ABC.
