Miles Avery was the oldest contestant to compete on American Ninja Warrior in 2015. The 57-year-old is getting a second chance on the show at the Philadelphia Qualifier (airing June 27). When not training for ANW, Avery’s running OSEGA Gymnastics in Swannanoa, North Carolina. The former Ohio State University men’s gymnastics coach was also a four-time coach for the U.S. Olympic Men’s Gymnastics team. So yes, Avery knows his ANW competitor, Paul Hamm, well. Avery was Hamm’s personal coach at the 2004 Olympics in Athens where Hamm won a Gold Medal and Silver Medal.
After the 2004 Olympics, Hamm and his twin brother — and fellow Olympic gymnast –Morgan Hamm studied at The Ohio State University. Shortly after the Hamms graduated from OSU, Avery retired in 2010. American Ninja Warrior airs Mondays at 8pm on NBC.
