Pharrell Williams is known as a cerebral man, but the super-producer and performer doesn’t just use what’s inside his head to create opportunities. As a coach on The Voice, Pharrell uses his famous forehead quite literally — wearing hats with PLANT sewn across the front in giant letters. There’s no symbol, no logo, no distracting images — just PLANT. Is it an instruction? Does it mean stay put? Does it mean help the environment, plant a tree? Is it all about weed? Pharrell never mentions it — the “Happy” superstar just lets PLANT speak for itself.
Because the people want to know. In today’s marketing world, subtlety — if you’ve already achieved a Pharrell-level platform — is way better than in-your-face. Even if, and this is where Pharrell is a true master, the subtlety IS in your face (you can’t possibly miss PLANT on Pharrell’s head). So here goes: the oh-so-chic PLANT is a vine, if you will, of the underground streetwear brand CPFM, or Cactus Plant Flea Market. Other lunimaries spotted sporting PLANT include Cara Delevingne and Big Sean. It seems to be a Pharrell creation — his assistant apparently goes by the name Cactus. Here’s the Twitter. Here’s the PLANT Instagram. And here’s the Cactus Plant Flea Market site, with some bold and jumpy pics. You could try to by a Cactus Plant headband here.
