In October 2013, young, beautiful biomedical engineer Taylor Gould went out to celebrate her boyfriend’s birthday. Rahul Gupta was a biomedical engineer, too. The couple celebrated by going out with Gupta’s high school friend Mark Waugh, who was a freshman at Georgetown Law. All three returned to the studio apartment that Gupta and Taylor were sharing. Later that night, when the police arrived after a 911 call, Waugh was found stabbed to death. Gupta was charged with first-degree murder. At one point in his trial, Gupta blamed Gould for killing Waugh but the jury didn’t believe him. He was found guilty and sentenced to life in prison.
One year after Waugh’s murder, Taylor Gould pursued an MBA degree at University of Texas at Dallas Naveen Jindal School of Management. According to her LinkedIn account she continues to work at the U.S. Food and Drug Administration’s office of in vitro diagnostics and radiological health. In 2014, she contributed to an article about “photoacoustic imaging” – a biomedical technique used in cancer diagnosis and oximetry. 48 Hours will air its investigative report on Saturday, April 2 at 9pm on CBS.
