10 Cloverfield Lane will hit theaters on March 11, 2016. That’s fast-breaking news for what’s supposedly a sequel of sorts to J. J. Abrams-produced 2008 film Cloverfield. 10 Cloverfield Lane stars John Goodman, Mary Elizabeth Winstead and John Gallagher, Jr. The original Cloverfield was a haunting spook-storm presented in faux found footage style about a night a giant monster attacks New York City. The attack takes place in the future and the footage looks back. It gained a strong cult following and made $170 million.
Collider reports that Paramount isn’t calling 10 Cloverfield Lane a sequel to the original Cloverfield, but instead the studio is using the suggestive phrase “blood relative” to describe how the films are linked. Not much is known about the plot, except that it’s meant to terrify. And there is human captivity, not unlike the Oscar-nominated Room.
