On The Profit, Marcus Lemonis visits Los Angeles married couple, Mark Biren and Samantha “Sam” Schacher, who run a candle company called Wick’ed. It’s a line of romantic, pre-dripped candles. They need an investment from Lemonis – and a business strategy – to help them “create a product with mass appeal to break into the market.”

When Lemonis arrives and checks out the inventory, he asks Mark and Sam how much debt they have. Mark explains that they’ve maxed out one credit card — $10,000 – and there’s another $6,000 on another credit card. They are partners, but this is the first time Samantha is hearing about the debt. She breaks down in tears and asks Mark a series of rhetorical questions like “how are we supposed to buy a house and have a baby with that much debt?” If you think she’s being overdramatic, you’re not alone. Samantha is in the entertainment business. After graduating from UCLA (on a swimming scholarship) with a minor in Theater, she launched her career as a TV producer (Judge Judy) and TV host. When not on Dr. Drew on Call on HLN, she’s hosting her own pop culture show Pop Trigger on Hulu. The Profit airs Tuesdays at 10pm on CNBC.
