Jeffrey Dean Morgan is having a moment. The handsome actor with the gritty basso profundo voice was just cast as Negan in Season 6 of The Walking Dead. Fans of the show are excited, but fans of another popular show are taking the news badly. Morgan is the best thing to happen to The Good Wife since that other handsome, calm, cool bad guy — drug dealer Lemond Bishop (Mike Colter) — fled the scene. Alicia Florrick (Julianna Margulies) seems postively smitten with Morgan’s character, Jason Crouse — a disbarred lawyer who once punched a judge and now works as an investigator with a wry touch, apparent integrity, easy smile and mischievous gleam in his eye. (Besides the voice, that gleam is Morgan’s special sauce.)
[Who Is New Investigator Jason Crouse on ‘The Good Wife’?]
But when Alicia decides to do a little background check, she’s thrown into a river of doubt: did Crouse punch a judge because he’s a crusader for real justice, as she wants to believe — or is he a nut? A call from the assaulted judge warns Alicia to not walk, but to “run away” from Crouse. Don’t fall for the charm, he warns, claiming Crouse is actually a true sociopath who embeds deep and tears lives apart. Run, he says, run, run, run. It’s the best potential ongoing plot point of the show. And if The Walking Dead steals away Morgan… Good Wife watchers will be left with whether Peter Florrick can beat Hillary Clinton for president. Yawn. Is Crouse really a sociopath? Because those guys make for good TV, if bad citizens. Morgan’s casting as a villain in The Walking Dead seems ever more apt, though.
