On The Good Wife episode “Cooked,” Peter Florrick’s new strategist Ruth Eastman (Margo Martindale) tells Eli to convince Alicia to appear on the cooking show, “Mama’s Homespun Cooking”, with her mother Veronica (Stockard Channing). It’s the “Hillary Clinton cookies” political move designed to show voters that Alicia isn’t all business, all lawyer, all the time. She has a softer side too and can relate to everyday women who have the time to cook for their families. Alicia will put on a fake smile for the cameras but Veronica isn’t as easy to control.
Mama Jill is portrayed by Lesli Margherita. She’s appeared on many TV shows including Chicago Hope, The King of Queens, JAG, NYPD Blue and Charmed, among others. She’s currently working on the sitcom Donny! based on the life of obnoxious adman-turned-TV-personality Donny Deutsch. Fun fact about Margherita: She received the 2009 Laurence Olivier Award for her performance as Inez in Zorro at the Garrick Theatre in London. The Good Wife airs Sundays at 9:30pm on CBS.
