ABC Family is launching a new reality TV show, Startup U. It follows 10 young aspiring entrepreneurs who are trying to launch startup companies. All of them are being mentored at Draper University in San Mateo, California. After an extensive seven-week program, the students will pitch their ideas to venture capitalists.
The host/mentor of Startup U is Draper University founder and billionaire venture capitalist Tim Draper. Before establishing the school and the Silicon Valley venture capital firm Draper Fisher Jurvetson (and investing in Skype, Tesla, and Hotmail), Draper earned his degree in electrical engineering from Stanford and his MBA from Harvard. In 2011, he founded Draper University which claims to have funded more than 180 student ideas, totaling $20 million. Startup U will premiere on August 11 at 10pm on ABC Family.
