The McCarthys is a sitcom about a sports-crazed Irish-Catholic family who live together in Boston. One of the four adult children, Gerard, manages to miss his own engagement party which is being held on a Boston Harbor cruise ship. (Gerard gets on the wrong one.) The mishap forces his mother Marjorie (Laurie Metcalf) to bond with her soon-to-be daughter-in-law.

Gerard is portrayed by Joey McIntyre who in real life was raised in Boston and comes from a large Irish Catholic family. He’s is the youngest of NINE children! McIntyre is best known as a member of the boy band New Kids on the Block. As an actor McIntyre also had recurring roles on Boston Public (Colin Flynn) and The Hotwives of Orlando (Heath). CBS is airing two of the last episodes of The McCarthys on the Fourth of July, at 9pm and 9:30pm.
