After selling a billion pairs of Chuck Taylor sneakers, the Converse brand has redesigned its classic shoe so it will “feel more like Nike.” What that means is that the new version will still look like a Chuck Taylor All-Star but be more comfortable. The change was inevitable because Nike bought Converse after the venerable shoe seller went bankrupt in 2003. Nike designers probably just wanted to wear some cool Chucks around the office without having their feet hurt.
The Converse Chuck II has “added arch support, cushioned souls and a breathable lining.” The new shoes will be available at stores on July 28. They come in black, white, red and blue. $75 for high-tops, $70 for low-cuts.
