BBC America’s new miniseries Jonathan Strange & Mr. Norrell is based on the bestselling novel by Susanna Clarke. It’s about two magicians in early 19th century England. When Mr. Norrell reveals his magic powers, he becomes an overnight sensation. The younger and attractive Jonathan Strange (Bertie Carvel) finds Norrell and becomes his student, and then rival.
Mr. Norrell is portrayed by Eddie Marsan. The 47-year-old actor is best known by Americans for his roles in films including 21 Grams (Reverend John), Mission: Impossible III (Brownway), V for Vendetta (Brian Etheridge), Sherlock Holmes (Inspector Lestrade) and War Horse (Sgt. Fry). He also appears on Showtime’s Ray Donovan as Terry Donovan, Ray’s older brother with Parkinson’s disease. Jonathan Strange & Mr. Norrell premieres on June 13 at 10pm on BBC America.
