With Games 1 and 2 going into overtime, there has been 154 minutes of play between the Golden State Warriors and Cleveland Cavaliers in the NBA Finals so far. Of those available minutes, LeBron James has played 142 of them. He’s scored almost a point every minute he’s been out there, netting 123 points so far as Cleveland has climbed to a 2-1 series lead.
What’s even more unusual is the number of shots James has taken: 107 shots. That’s 35.6 shots a game. That’s nearly double what he averaged all season (18.5), but there is no Kyrie Irving or Kevin Love out there with him now. Speculation going into the series was that if James had to carry too much of the load for Cleveland, it would ultimately hurt their chances — it’s a team game, after all. But so far, so good for James and the Cavs. They’re running an offense old-time sports fans in Cleveland are very familiar with: it’s called give it to that guy. That guy used to be named Jim Brown. Now it’s LeBron James.
