YouTube talent partners will no longer be able to graphically plug brands with title cards in their videos. Revising its paid product placement rules, YouTube will disallow this type of product placement and branding within videos–at least on product placement deals done outside YouTube’s auspices.
The YouTube rules now read: “We allow text-only title cards where there is Paid Product Placement for the purpose of paid product disclosure only. Graphical title cards, including the use of sponsor logos and product branding, are prohibited.” YouTube isn’t against working with brands, of course. It would just like to be involved: “If you have an advertiser interested in serving ads specifically against your content, please work with your partner manager [a YouTube staffer] to facilitate the transaction.”
