Filmmaker Doron Max Hagay and writer/actress Lily Marotta have created a new comic web series about Monica Lewinsky’s time spent in New York after her affair with President Bill Clinton became public. Marotta plays the 27-year-old Lewinsky who for some reason in Monica: the Miniseries, wears a knitted black beret. Of course she does!
In the Miniseries, Monica meets a bunch of mean New Yorkers including a woman in Central Park who says to Monica, “I used to know a girl like you. She was a whore. She ruined the lives of everyone around her, and then nobody wanted her.” Flavorwire critic Sarah Seltzer is confused by this Lewinsky: “Given all this context, I’m not entirely sure what tone the show is trying to strike just yet. Is its rather innocuous-seeming Lewinsky a victim, heroine, or avatar of modern womanhood?” Seltzer might be taking the miniseries a little too seriously. The bigger question is, why now?
