LSU with its two losses can’t make this year’s inaugural college football playoffs, but that doesn’t mean the No. 16 Tigers can’t have an impact on the outcome. And boy would they like to. No. 5 Alabama is on the cusp of the four team playoff rotation and the Crimson Tide will need a victory today in Louisiana to stay in the hunt. Nobody knows that better than the Tigers and their faithful.
‘Bama is the more talented team this time around. But they’re playing away and against a coach who certainly knows how to beat the irrepressible Alabama leader Nick Saban. LSU coach Les Miles isn’t too intimidated by Saban’s reputation as a terrifying madman. In fact, when in 2011 Miles’ No. 1 Tigers beat Saban’s No. 2 Tide in a November showdown it marked the third time in five years Miles had taken out a Saban squad. Saban, of course, came back to beat Miles and LSU two months later for the national championship. That started a 3-game losing streak for Miles against Saban and the Tide–mostly fiercely fought battles that were close till the end. What to expect this week? “I’m kind of anticipating a classic myself,” Miles said on a radio show this week. So are we all. No. 5 Alabama (7-1) @ No. 16 LSU (6-2) 8:00 PM CBS
