Is the world ready for a comedy starring Hulk Hogan and David Hasselhoff as themselves? With a title, Celebrity Death Pool, that sounds like it was lifted from that old claymation show that you and your college friends thought was just hysterical when you were all baked? The people at WWE Studios think so, and have even managed to blackmail, er, convince The Hangover‘s Ken Jeong to take part. The satire “centers on a struggling nightclub owner whom (sic), after amassing a large debt from a loan shark, sets out to win his long-running celebrity death pool by attempting to kill his chosen celebrity, David Hasselhoff.”
The grammatically-incorrect use of “whom” should be a good sign of how seriously this movie should be taken. In a sign of just how awful this is going to be, WWE adds “an increasing number of other celebrities have signed on for various supporting roles and cameo appearances,” without actually naming them. Celebrities is a very fluid term, remember. WWE also brought you Leprechaun: Origins and Scooby-Doo! Wrestlemania Mystery. Now Hulk Hogan is tweeting images from the set. This is really happening. Somewhere, a publicity professional is dusting off old press releases from a zany 80s comedy caper.
