Are you ready for more Blue Steel? A sequel to Zoolander may be close to happening. Although it’s been 13 years since Ben Stiller’s comedy about male models in the fashion world, Will Ferrell spilled the beans that there is a script for the sequel doing the rounds. “We are actually supposed to do a read-through of a sequel script soon, and Mugatu is a part of it.” SlashFilm reports that Zoolander 2 has been in development for a long time, “and the likelihood of it actually getting made has gone up and down. But it does seem something has changed over the past year. Late last year Stiller was telling press the project was ‘on hold’; six months later, he declared he was ‘actively’ working on a script rewrite.”
Thirteen years is a long time between movies, especially comedies. Stiller says the sequel would be about “how the fashion world moves so quickly … the movie will begin at a time when the whole world has moved on from Derek and Hansel because they’re so ancient history. It’s about them having to reinvent themselves and try to become relevant again.” That sounds an awful lot like the plot of Anchorman 2, which was for some was a letdown after its seemingly endless promotional blitz.
