One of the best story-led video games of all-time, The Last of Us, has been remastered for PlayStation 4. The story is set in the future where a fungal plague has turned most of the world’s population into zombies. One of the last humans who isn’t infected is a smuggler called Joel. He reluctantly takes a potty-mouthed 14-year-old girl named Ellie to meet with a resistance group called the Fireflies. The relationship can be compared to the embattled adult male/teenage girl relationship in the 1994 film The Professional. (Jean Reno plays a hitman who reluctantly saves Natalie Portman after her family is murdered.)
The PS4 version is getting amazing reviews from critics like David Houghton at GamesRadar: “It’s a bona fide, genre-defining, once-or-twice-a-generation Big Deal; the game Naughty Dog has always threatened to make but never really delivered.” He went on to claim: “The Last of Us is the first truly mature interactive narrative in the action genre.”
