Todd McLellan takes things apart – cameras, clocks, coffee machines –throws them in midair and takes pictures. No mechanism is too small (iPad) or too big (grand piano). The photographs capture some of the most intricate of modern technologies and in stunning motion. It appeases one’s child-like curiosity, especially the disassembling of potentially dangerous objects like fire extinguishers and chainsaws. There is a sometimes strange joy and perverse satisfaction to be had in watching things come apart. Publisher Thames & Hudson agree–they just released McLellan’s vivid new book called, yup, “Things Come Apart.”
McLellan makes his living as a commercial photographer – he makes Subarus and Hyundais look as sexy as BMWs. He can even make chickens look sexy. Okay, maybe not sexy but definitely regal.
