The picture, famously worth a thousand words. With the lease dispute over the Secret Service’s digs at Trump Tower in the news, Slate published a photo (see below) that captures the exact double life of Donald Trump since he became president. On the left you see a Trump Tower doorman, dressed in traditional black tie doorman garb. That’s Donald Trump’s old life, the one where, as he said, he could “shoot somebody on Fifth Avenue” and not get into any trouble.

Next to the doorman is a Secret Service officer, a heavily armed representative of Donald Trump’s new life as POTUS — a life many people (including friend Howard Stern) don’t think he really wanted when he ran for president. But he won and now he’s got double duty standing outside Trump Tower — old faux elegance on the left and new battle-ready protection on the right. If anybody shoots anybody on Fifth Avenue now, there will be plenty of trouble from the law. The photo captures the new double life of Donald Trump, one foot in the old world of Fifth Avenue billionaire ease and luxury, the other in the new reality of being POTUS.
