The Lifetime TV movie New York Prison Break: The Seduction of Joyce Mitchell tells the real-life story of Joyce “Tillie” Mitchell, a seamstress working at the Clinton Correctional Facility, the maximum security prison in upstate New York. Mitchell confessed to helping two convicted murderers serving life sentences, David Sweat (portrayed by Joe Anderson) and Richard Matt (portrayed by Myk Watford), escape from the prison in 2015. She says she did it to protect her family. She said Matt threatened to kill her husband.

Joyce Mitchell is portrayed by Penelope Ann Miller. She’s known for her roles on American Crime (Eve Carlin), Mistresses (Elizabeth Grey), Men of a Certain Age (Sonia Tranelli), The Closer (Erica Hewitt), and in the films The Artist (Doris), Carlito’s Way (Gail), Other People’s Money (Kate Sullivan), Kingergarten Cop (Joyce), Awakenings (Paula), and Biloxi Blues (Daisy), among many others.
