On The Voice Season 12 the coaches tell their teams that there’s a new twist to this year’s Knockout Round. Sure, the artists get to choose their own songs but they have to rehearse it while their Knockout rival watches. When singer Enid Ortiz tells her coach Blake Shelton that she’s singing Adele’s “When We Were Young,” he says, “Phew, you never take the easy route out.” (Enid faces fellow soul singer TSoul in the Knockout Round.)

Enid isn’t the first to sing the Adele song on The Voice. Just last season, Billy Gilman sang “When We Were Young” for his Blind Audition. It worked. He was on Team Adam and almost won — he was the runner-up, behind Blake Shelton’s Sundance Head. The Voice airs Mondays and Tuesdays at 8pm on NBC.
