Season 3 of American Crime is set in Alamance County, North Carolina, where undocumented workers look for work. What they discover is “modern servitude” – their meager salaries quickly disappear as employers charge workers exorbitant rates for shelter, food and other essentials. One of the struggling family-owned tomato farms is owned by the Hesbys.
Laurie Ann Hesby is portrayed by Emmy Award and two-time Tony Award winning actress Cherry Jones. She’s known for her roles on Transparent (Leslie), 24 (President Allison Taylor), and in the films Ocean’s Twelve (Molly Star), Signs (Officer Paski), Divine Secrets of the Ya-Ya Sisterhood (Buggy), The Perfect Storm (Edie Bailey), Erin Brockovich (Pamela Duncan), and The Horse Whisperer (Liz Hammand), among others. Jones is also recognized for her roles on stage (The Heiress, Our Country’s Good, A Moon for the Misbegotten, and Doubt). American Crime airs Sundays at 10pm on ABC.
